History of the Pageant/Title
The Miss Cosmos pageant is rumored to have begun in 1951. The winner was a beauty from Argentina named Arjekikra. This competition was almost always held outside of the US. Thus, it became a truly International competition event for misses all over the world. However it was not very well known in the US and unable to be substantiated. A full list of contestants and outcomes, that could be substantiated prior to Mrs. Mason taking over , is archived with the pageant. The title then fell out of the media, where it remained, until it was brought into popular culture, in America, by television. On December 27,1979, Dorothy Stratten, played Miss Cosmos, a genetically perfect beauty queen who is the kidnap target of a mysterious woman with awesome superpowers on the series "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" (Season 1, Episode 13). She was also portrayed by the comic book character called Miss America. This Character over the course of her life, decided she wanted to lead a different type of existence. She recreates herself to be a woman of “all space”, with space debris, and renames herself Miss Cosmos. Since then, it is no surprise that this title has been inspiration for artists and people of all nations, as well. The word Cosmos has Greek and Latin roots and is understood to mean microcosm. Therefore, the woman representing such a title would represent all nations, races and ages. The title then went into development in 2006 and was scheduled to move back into the pageant circuit and limelight. It was thrust back into the public eye when Mrs. Mason attended Greece, ending her reign as Ms. World 2007. She became known as “Ms. Cosmos” to the locals and was asked to move forward with representing this title to further awareness for Domestic Violence worldwide. She was able to be on the most popular TV station on the island of Crete, interviewed as a face of a survivor making a large impact, help begin the important work of getting Angela Shelton’s video translated into Greek and distributed into shelter’s there, and modeling in International catalogs and doing International cover shoots. She made appearances throughout the area and helped represent an organization that was there to raise the volume for domestic violence Mrs. Mason, in essence, had her ”crowning moment" on the island of Crete, during her visit and became the first documented Ms. Cosmos...2007/2008. Mrs. Mason then decided to purchase the rights to move forward with producing this pageant to help other women gain this awesome microphone for the cause of her choosing.
