Sydney Baldwin - Jr. Miss Cosmos
Sydney Baldwin, age 13, was born in Minnesota and lived there for 10 years before her family moved to Arizona. Her heritage is a mix of Norwegian, Danish, French and German.
Sydney is in 7th grade and is a straight “A” student, excelling in all subjects, but especially enjoys language arts and math. She is also a member of student council.
.
Sydney is not a pageant veteran but has had a great time learning and growing with pageants in the past four years. She was crowned Ideal Miss Jr. Teen Arizona 2007. She was honored to compete In the National American Miss Minnesota Pageant with over one hundred other young ladies and take the coveted 1st runner position, also winning the modeling competition and photogenic competition.
Sydney won the 2006 Young Poets Award, 2005 Reading Rainbow Poetry Award and is on the honor roll. She found her education important enough to earn the perfect attendance award two years in a row. She was recently named a member of the National Honors Society, for her educational excellence and high grade point average.
Sydney feels she is unique/special because she has been given opportunities others her age may not have been given and she tried to not take any of that for granted. She was able to travel outside of the United States to Europe and Mexico. She is excited to travel to many more countries in the future. Because of her love for children and the desire to teach someday, unlike many her age, she has a platform, a passion to serve others. Thus, she created “Little Minds School” over summer break 2009. To give herself some firsthand experience running a classroom, she made schedules and worked with 5-8 year olds. The kids schedule included math, reading, science, spelling and social studies. She bought all the materials with money raised through a lemonade stand and parent donations. They had an art class and lunch for the kids as well; there was something creative for the kids to do daily. She went above and beyond by making school t-shirts for the kids to wear and has her Red Cross babysitting license. She plans on continuing to build the school and lift up young students.
Sydney enjoys furthering her community involvement by going to nursing homes to help out. She volunteers for Feed My Starving Children helping prepare packaged meals for the children in third world countries and at Fishes and Loaves by serving the homeless. She spent three years in Girls Scouts and traveled to nursing homes doing arts and crafts with the elderly and sang in the halls for those who could not get out of bed. She loves playing soccer, volleyball, swimming and tennis. She also enjoys directing and producing plays for friends and family and watching old TV shows; Punky Brewster, Brady Brunch, and Full House.
Sydney’s long-term goals are to become a 5th grade teacher and have a family. In the meantime, her goals include adding more community service hours to her day and continuing to be an exceptional student.
Sydney is a young lady with many talents. She is a wonderful singer, loves dancing, acting, plays the oboe, flute and piano and is a gymnast. |
